My DH gave me an Etsy gift card for Mother's Day. I found a gorgeous, hand-crafted silver necklace. It's made in the US by silversmith A.F. Barber. I dug into my jewelry box and found a pair of matching earrings that I'd received from my brother and his wife for my 30th birthday - 32 years ago next month! Silver is a wonderful summer minimalist look for the beach - and that's where these pics were taken - on Long Beach Island, New Jersey just last week.

Spring has finally arrived. And with it, lots of weeds, limbs, twigs and a pond that used to be a swimming pool. Whatever happened, whatever the reason, it seems to be taking longer to get organized and make any headway this year. Thirty bags of mini-nuggets that my oldest son put down for us barely touched the back border - there's so much yet to do. The vegetable garden is mostly planted. I was very late with the first sewing of lettuce seeds so I'm going to grow some in a planter as well. I'm experimenting with potatoes this year. Cut them in quarters, throw them in a ditch and see what happens! I have a few strawberry plants left that Momma Bunny didn't eat last year when she dug her warren in the berry patch. The garlic I planted last fall is up and growing. My pole beans are poking their heads up, ready to go as long as I'm faithful about watering. I planted zinnia seeds in the vegetable garden and my butterfly weed (that I started from seed 5 years ago) finally looks like it will be a substantial plant this year. I'm going to grow my tomatoes in pots again this year. If I want anything bigger than a cherry tomato I'll have to buy it from the farm.
A sparrow family has built their nest in the Alberta spruce right next to the patio. Apparently the babies have hatched as mom and dad were busy all afternoon flying back and forth with nasty buggy-wormy tidbits in their mouths. Their flightpath was driving the dog crazy - I think she thought they were dive-bombing her.
I'm knitting up a storm on a cotton/acrylic sweater. The yarn is boring but I think the sweater would be great for the beach on a cool evening. It's called Pier 60 and the designer is Melissa Schaschwary. Say that 3 times fast.
I finally got a picture of the three youngest grandsons together Memorial Day week-end. I figured out how to photograph a moving target and their fascination with the play pool kept them in one frame for more than a minute!
Healthwise, the 60's are proving to be interesting and now I know why my parents scheduled their lives around doctor appointments. However, I have lost 8.5 pounds without dieting. No, it's good! I've discovered Gary Taubes and I'm spreading the news. I eat whatever I want as long as I keep the carbs down. No sugar, no wheat, pasta, bread, starchy vegetables. Tonight I grilled lemon rosemary chicken, mashed cauliflower with cream, butter and parmesan and finished with a caesar salad. I don't know how this will go as the weight continues to come off. I don't know if the weight loss will stop at a certain point or if it will simply slow down. Follow me on this journey if you want the whole story!
